At the Veterans History Studio, we are dedicated to capturing and sharing the diverse experiences of military service. Your personal journey, with its unique challenges and achievements, is an invaluable part of our nation's history. By sharing your story, you help us honor the complexity of military life and the profound impact it has on individuals and their communities.

Invitation to Contribute

If you are currently serving or a veteran who served in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard, we cordially invite you to contribute to this meaningful archive by submitting your interview video. Your participation not only preserves your legacy but also enlightens and inspires future generations about the realities of military service and will contribute to our research efforts.

Interview Questions

Please guide your interview with the following questions. These are designed to draw out rich, comprehensive narratives about your experiences in the military and afterward:

  1. Introduction: Could you introduce yourself and share the branch of the military you served in and the period of your service?

  2. Motivation: What motivated you to join the military, and how did your family react to your decision?

  3. Basic Training: Can you describe your experience in basic training? What was the most challenging part, and what did you learn about yourself? If you are a minority, did you face any additional challenges due to this?

  4. Memorable Experiences: Share a particularly memorable experience from your time in service. This could be a challenging situation, a moment of camaraderie, or an event that had a significant impact on you.

  5. Influence on Perspectives: How did your military service influence your views on teamwork, leadership, and discipline?

  6. Overseas Service: Did you serve overseas? How did that experience affect your perspective on global issues and other cultures?

  7. Transition to Civilian Life: Veterans often face unique challenges when transitioning back to civilian life. Can you discuss any challenges you faced and how you overcame them? If you are currently serving, please share anything you have observed that veterans are facing. 

  8. Biggest Challenge: Reflecting on your entire military journey, including post-service, what was the biggest challenge you faced? How did you address or overcome this challenge?

  9. Government Support for Veterans: From your personal experience, what are the biggest challenges that face veterans? What could the government improve to better support veterans?

  10. Significant Contributions: What do you feel was your most significant contribution or achievement during your time in the military?

  11. Impact on Personal Values: How has your military service impacted your personal values and life goals?

  12. Advice for Prospective Service Members: Lastly, what advice would you give to someone considering military service today?

 

Rights and Permissions

By submitting your video, you grant the Veterans History Studio comprehensive rights to the content. This includes the unrestricted right to use, reproduce, and distribute your interview for various purposes, including educational, research and promotional activities.

 

How to Submit

Send an email to veterans.history.studio@gmail.com with a link with a downloadable video file. The duration of the video must be a minimum of 10 minutes of talk time and cover all the questions above.

The email must contain the following text:

"By submitting this video, I grant the Veterans History Studio comprehensive rights to the content. This includes the unrestricted right to use, reproduce, and distribute it for various purposes, including but not restricted to research, educational,  and promotional activities."

Also, please include the following details:

- Full Name
- Email Address
- Rank

- Branch of Service
- Dates of Service 
- Address (Used solely for verification and will remain confidential.)
